Indiana Joins States Requiring Online Franchise Filings

On Behalf of | Jan 17, 2020 | Franchise Law

The Indiana Secretary of State, Securities Division recently announced that it has launched its Indiana Securities Portal and that as of January 1, 2020, all franchise registration applications must be filed electronically through the Portal. Any paper filings or e-mail filings sent to the IN Securities Division will be sent back to the sender.

Indiana has become the third registration state to require online filings for franchise registrations. In April 2019, online filings became mandatory in the state of Washington. The Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions, Division of Securities was the first to implement mandatory online franchise filings in July 2016.

Online filings save franchisors the cost of printing hard copies of Franchise Disclosure Documents and the cost of shipping franchise registration applications to the state regulatory agencies. Hopefully, online filings will also lead to applications being processed more efficiently to reduce waiting time for franchise registration application approvals.
